HEALTH & WELLBEING
Get Paid When You’re in Hospital
When I was living in the UK with sickle cell, I found a policy that paid me cash for every night I spent in hospital with no awkward questions about my medical history and no delays on claims. Just straightforward cover that worked when I needed it most.
It pays between £50–£250 per 24 hours admitted, covers pre-existing conditions after 12 months, and starts from around £10 a month. There are also policies for children, which means carers can get support too.
I don’t use it anymore since I relocated to Jamaica and my health has genuinely improved. But if you’re in the UK managing sickle cell, lupus, fibromyalgia or any chronic illness where hospital is sometimes part of life, this is worth knowing about.
The Health App & Watch I Use
Living with a chronic illness can feel unpredictable. Understanding what’s happening in your body between appointments isn’t always easy — and that’s exactly why I use Sanius Health.
It’s a wearable-supported health platform designed for people living with chronic and rare conditions. You can monitor symptoms, track wellbeing trends, and build a clearer picture of your health over time. For sickle cell specifically, consistent users have seen A&E attendances reduce by 52%, inpatient admissions by 53%, and crises by 64%.
You can also earn points for consistently engaging with the platform and redeem them for gift cards and prizes — so you’re literally learning about your body and getting rewarded for it.
